"..regardless of format, AB is a brilliant tunesmith whose colorful vibes blind the shady music industry." - Home News
An accomplished composer, arranger and educator as well as bassist, Adam led the successful folk/rock/klezmer/funk 14-piece big band All Gods' Children for six years. The Aquarian Weekly (NJ) named Adam "Best Bassist" and the band "Best Band" in 1993. He later performed and/or recorded with a wide range of talented musicians and dancers, including Levon Helm, Sahib Shihab, Perry Robinson, Walter Perkins, Ethel (String Quartet), Teocinte (from El Salvador), Jack Hardy, Claire Daly, The Angstones, Solar, David Driver, Sean Altman and Jennifer Muller/The Works.
In 1990 Adam toured Japan with Hilario Soto's Higher Culture, and in 1993 studied percussion at the Escuela Nacional De Danzaq Moderna Y Folklorica in Havana, Cuba. As a composer and arranger, Adam co-arranged the score for a television program on Groucho Marx that aired on the A&E network's popular series "Biography." He has composed many scores for dance, performed at Columbia and Rutgers universities as well as other performances spaces.
In 1998, while continuing to perform and record, Adam turned his attention toward jazz education. He is the jazz director at the Berkeley-Carroll School in Brooklyn, NY and on the faculty at Jazz at Lincoln Center. He received a proclamation for his outstanding work in jazz education from Brooklyn Borough president Marty Markowitz on June 3, 2005.
"Dust Off The Timeless Night" is Adam Bernstein's 2nd CD of pop material. It's produced by long time collaborator and They Might Be Giants drummer, Marty Beller. Special guests include Dan Miller (They Might Be Giants), Laurie Berkner, Jack Petruzzelli (Rufus Wainwright/Fab Faux), Peter Kiesewalter (East Village Opera Co.) Tricia Scotti, and Fil Kronengold.
Adam Bernstein will be performing as part of The Laurie Berkner Band on the new season of NOGGIN's "Jack's Big Music Show." Adam played bass on Laurie Berkner's first three award-winning and critically acclaimed releases, 1997's 'Whaddaya Think Of That?', 1998's 'Buzz Buzz,' and 1999's 'Victor Vito.'

as strong as the best work of other great pop composers, past and present
author: Matthew Synder
Composer/musician Adam Bernstein's second set of original tunes is, incredibly, even better than his first, Yo Mama Yo. That disk had already set the bar pretty high in terms of quality songwriting and performance, but Dust Off The Timeless Night finds Bernstein even more focused in every way: variety of production methods and arrangements; conciseness and beauty of melodies and lyrics; beautiful and tasteful playing by his stellar cast of musicians and colleagues (including producer/drummer Marty Beller, crack sessioner Jack Petruzelli, and of course longtime friend Laurie Berkner); even Bernstein's lead vocals soar and emote in new ways. With lyrics that dig into the nature of human relationships (both with others and himself) and his search for inner and outer peace, Bernstein's work here sounds as strong as the best work of other great pop composers, past and present. Hard to name favorites, but two are Another Vote For Reincarnation and the Ballad of Adam No Bombing and Pretty Green.

Great singer-songwriter pop!

Great singer-songwriter pop, with great melodies and thoughtful lyrics. Somewhere in between Mead/Rouse/Johnston, Ben Folds (more in the manner of sensibility rather than piano) Steven Mark, Paul Schneider and Joe Ongie. Highlight track: "The Poets of Avarice". This one has serious year-end list potential.
