Beth Boucher (boo-shay) is a Boston-based singer/songwriter and guitarist whose full-length debut album, Mess You Up, was produced by Peter Prilesnik (Sarah Harmer, Great Big Sea) and features an all-star lineup of musicians, including Luke Doucet (Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk) and Kurt Swinghammer (Ani DiFranco). Although Beth's music has been described as quirky, poppy, edgy alternative folk rock, Mess You Up offers a collection of tunes that cross genres, and add random bits of country, punk, and Latin jazz to boot. The common threads include her sweet, honest voice, witty lyrics, and varied, rich arrangements.

Beth stepped into the vibrant Boston music scene in 1999 with her four-song eponymous EP, which was quickly placed in heavy rotation on college radio stations in and around Boston and as far west as California. Beth's song "Elusive Thing," which has since been newly arranged and re-recorded for the new album, was featured on The Best of Boston Singer/Songwriters Volume 2 compilation cd.

Beth has been building a strong following playing clubs, such as The House of Blues and The Bitter End, as well as more intimate coffeehouses, throughout New England and the Northeast, both solo and with her 4-piece "ridiculously good-looking band." When she steps on stage, she engages the audience with humor, energy, intelligence, and passion. She is wide open, presenting herself with no pretension, weaving wit with the irrepressible optimism of her lyrics, as she rides with grace over life's little bumps.

Mess You Up is a blast, from the first note to the last. It's touching, poetic, fun, zippy, angry, optimistic, important, relevant, misty, toe-tapping, jam-spreading wee-hah good. It's music you listen to loud. It's the kind of CD you want to buy an extra copy of to give to somebody cuz you just discovered this cool new thing. Mess You Up will do just that, if you let it...

Beth Boucher's debut CD melts like butter on your french toast. YUMMY!

Mess You Up is an awesome debut for Beth and her ridiculously good-looking band!  Just gimme some time to decide which track I prefer;
It is truly hard to pick a favorite as each song is amazingly unique, and sparkles like a star hanging in the clear New England sky.  I could say that the 3rd track unstamped or the last track the fight is my favorite, but  I would only be acting like it was.....as I have only heard this cd a dozen times; each song seems to get better every time I hear it.  This is not a cd to listen to once and dismiss.... you need to listen to it a bunch of times to appreciate it.
     How long will it be before a pick a favorite? My decision is truly an elusive thing.  I fear that my true feelings are buried down, down, down....like a treasure buried beneath frozen winter ice in some northern Maine pond, separated from me by 12" or more of frosty glass. Why decide?
     I will continue to listen to this cd and perhaps the answer will become clear some bright clear morning as I sip my coffee and pour maple syrup on my hot, buttered Belgian waffles.

This is a listenable, enjoyable, fresh-souding CD!

Sometimes one comes along that after you've listened to it, you feel like you've owned it all your life and it's been your favorite.  It doesn't sound like anything else you have, but it sounds like that one CD you've been searching for.  I won't select a "stand out" track because I just feel great when this CD is playing.  You will too.
