Album Notes

Beth Custer is truly a musical visionary for the 21st century. Her collaborations include being a founding member of the world fusion unit Trance Mission, the jazz oriented Will Bernard/Beth Custer Ensemble, the trip-hop duo Eighty Mile Beach and the cinematic pioneers Club Foot Orchestra. She composes regularly for the dance troupe The Joe Goode Performance Group as well as for numerous film and TV projects.

"As the planet shrinks through electronic communication and appreciation of all cultures, it's no longer accurate to say that Custer's sensibility is where music is going - it's where it already is. She may claim to lie in broken fields, but she gathers them all into a gorgeous unified landscape." LA WEEKLY

Fans of the eclectic - hear this! A sophisticated exotic blend of Latin, torch jazz, and who knows what else. Great musicianship from a small band with a gorgeous voice on top. Her music is all over film, TV, and theater. Her bio is filled with awards and grants. An amazing rich talent.

The third song on the cd, "Lagrimas de Oro" is 50% of the five stars I give this album. A very satisfying, complete (no loose ends), latin jazz work; some real muslical craft on display here. Even without that song the rest of album holds up very well. I would call it experimental, improvised -- but really well thought out, with a definite coherence that avoids the chaos and weakness of other alternative works I've heard.
