"Now" is the debut release from the Atlanta kirtan group, Bhakti Messenger, featuring original musical compositions by Ian Boccio and Phil McWilliams that make fresh interpretations of traditional devotional chants from India and places them in a context that is more accessible to a Western audience. Calling on the spirit of their home, the band has infused this album with the folk and bluegrass sounds that are part of the vibration of the Southern United States, which are then combined with solid, earthy rhythms that come from many years of rock-and-roll backbeat experience. These musical underpinnings serve as the foundation over which voices sing through the spaces between the deeply contemplative and the wildly passionate, from traditional Indian call-and-response to traditional Western layers of harmonies. This is more than music, it is also a yoga practice in and of itself! Listening to and/or singing along with this album can create deep shifts in consciousness and promote feelings of Peace and Love.
