Many performers of popular dance music from the 1950s and 1960s attempt to replicate the sounds of the original artists, taking a kind of live-jukebox approach. Others make fun of the genre, applying to it a campy parody.
Big Cam & the Lifters attract their audiences, often made up in large part of hand dancers (jitterbuggers, swing dancers, shaggers), by starting out with a deep affection for the artists of the era, then applying the Lifters'own stamp to the original performers' wonderful material, all the while making the music eminently danceable.
Big Cam & the Lifters have delighted audiences at dances, carnivals, wedding receptions, country clubs, festivals and night clubs for more than 20 years throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
The Lifters' musical pedigree is authentic and rich. Lead singer Lorenzo T. Howard and bassist Teresa Moore have shared the stage with The Marvelettes, Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chubby Checker and Little Anthony. Lorenzo also sang with the Del-Vikings, America's first major integrated rock and roll group ("Come Go With Me," "Whispering Bells"). Drummer Bill Gray and pianist Bob Grover backed up folks like Frankie Ford ("Sea Cruise," "You Talk Too Much"), Bobby Lewis ("Tossin' and Turnin' ") and Gary U.S. Bonds ("Quarter to Three"); guitarist Sam Miller jammed with the legendary Bill Haley & the Comets before forming his own Muleman Blues Band, and Earl Ross played sax with groups like the Drifters.

These folks know how to throw a party

Remember when Rock 'n ' Roll was made and played to have fun? Big Cam & The Lifters do. This disc contains some well-loved classics, plus some gems that aren't heard often enough on your local Oldies station. Along with a couple of solid originals, this is perfect for driving in the car with the top down (this only works if you own a convertible), or just hanging out at your place with some burgers on the grill and your favorite beverage on ice. Play it all year long- just remember to turn it up.

Solid old time favourites with some great self penned material thrown in.
author: Rob van Sante (Sound Technician - United Kingdom)
This is a recording which will sit very comfortably in my CD player for many moons to come, both in the car and at home. We're dealing here with a collection of songs ranging from we'll known old favourits to self penned masterpeaces, in particular the last song on the recording "Lord is my Shepherd", Grover proves to possess an undoubted mastery of song writing.
The opening track "Land of 1000 Dances" is one of those songs that has been done, and done, and done and chewed to death by so many a chancing outfit, however the Big Cam folks have given this old time favourite a new lease of live with a good solid arrangement and an obvious professional approach to perform covers in a well concidered manner, a quality that so often lacs with other bands. Have a listen to their rendition of Van Morrison's "Into the Music" You can't help thinking that good old Van is getting a run for his money on this occasion. These people display an obvious love for their music and it is great to see that in the hands of professionals, great music lives forever, nuff said??
