Album Notes

Since the 1800's, Chicago has attracted great numbers of Irish immigrants who have colored the City's musical landscape with the sounds of reels, jigs and hornpipes. This album is your introduction to the current Irish music scene in the City of Big Shoulders. You will hear nationally recognized talent expressing the music in a variety of stylistic approaches -- from traditional instrumentation with flutes, bodhrans and uilleann pipes to more contemporary sounds with electric guitars and even a full string orchestra. Need a pint or some traditional Irish cuisine to accompany your music? Fear not! Our special "Pub Locator Map" will guide you to the leading Chicago area venues featuring live Irish music every night of the week. "Hidden Treasures: Irish Music in Chicago"...it's for the Irish in everyone.

It's summer time.. and that can only mean one thing: lots of beer. What better companion than this arse-kickin' compilation album of Chicago's top Irish musicians? I mean, we all know that the Irish are synonymous with not only the best pints on earth but the best darn pint-drinkin' tunes! From light and heel-clicking reels to toss-'em-back jigs to plaintive ballads on the uillean pipes that will stop any heart in its tracks, this compelling album will help that stout go down much better- especially if you can't get to ol' Eireann, in all her beauty, this summer.
