Album Notes

Since his days in the late 1970's as co-founder of the acoustic trio Kooyman, Biggs and Anderson through his recent return to solo performing, Phil Biggs has passionately written a body of original songs including Shop Floor, Tennessee Flyer, Garden of Hope, Meridian Wind, Fallen Town, The Talking Earth, Spirit of Three Fires and Bells All Over the World.

Phil recently completed a two-year stint with the contemporary Christian band, Beyond Belief, and has occasionally performed with the legendary group Mid-Life Crisis, but always his first interest is in crafting a lyric and penning new tunes. “My roots in writing go back a long way and the songs I write reflect themes of social issues, literature, spirituality, travel, and, of course, relationships.” says Phil.

Most of Phil’s time performing and recording has been spent in collaboration with other West Michigan artists, which has enabled him to develop some unique song ideas. “It’s been a privilege to work with some of the very best we have. Whether we’re raising money for a worthy charity or planning out a new project or tour, I’ve shared a lot with artists like Michael Crittenden, Drew Nelson and my friends in the band Mid-Life Crisis. I’ve learned a great deal from them and others.”

In 2003, Phil was executive producer of Standing Together, a CD of original songs by local songwriters to support the needs of the Grand Rapids Public Schools. He coordinated the entire project and contributed a song, Gentle Dance. In 2004, with the help of friend and producer Crittenden, Phil released another CD of original songs, New Road Home. Then, in 2006, he released a CD-single, Shop Floor, with help from Mid-Life Crisis. Phil just released his latest CD, Reaching Deeper, in late 2007. There are 11 great-sounding new tunes on this new disc. Check out The Light In You, co-written with Michael Crittenden, and Walk the Red Road, performed by Phil and his friends Mid-Life Crisis!!
