Album Notes

"This popular local foursome play swirling hard rock with a sensibility that's evenly swayed by Southern boogie and soaring power pop, although when they merge the genres, it comes out heavier and more corrosive than you might expect-more Hendrix than Collective Soul or Cheap Trick."-Nashville Scene
Big riffs, harmony vocals, and finger-lickin good melodies. This be Big Jim Slade.

Believe it or not, all four members of Big Jim Slade have known each other since before they could sprout a respectable whisker.

Chris and Clay grew up together in Paducah, KY cruising in Clay's Camaro listening to KISS, Cheap Trick, Rush, and all things rock, while making their own in Chris' dad's garage. Meanwhile, Rob and Jon were 20 minutes down the road in Benton, KY watching "Live at El Mocambo" practically every other night, blasting Trouble cassettes in the Cutlass, playing Hendrix and Zeppelin covers in the basement, and creating their own. Eventually, all four landed in Nashville and birthed Big Jim Slade.

Big Jim Slade has released four albums since forming in 1997, including, Plant Life (1998/OUT OF PRINT), Big Jim Slade (2000), Pacify The Herd (2002) and This is delicious. (2008).

Along the way, Big Jim Slade has won a Citysearch.com Battle of the Bands, an Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, performed at shindigs like SXSW, Atlantis, Bonnaroo (2008 w/EARS), the Vans Warped Tour 2003 (Atlanta date), and were a featured artist on a MP3.com/Heineken Compilation CD (250,000 copies distributed in U.S.).

Big Jim Slade has shared bills with acts such as Raging Slab, King's X, Drive-By Truckers, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, OkGo, Kevin Kinney, Nonpoint, Impotent Sea Snakes, Bare Jr., Bonepony, Hermano, Taildragger, Supafuzz, Deathray Davies, Centromatic, etc.

Big Jim Slade is also host of a popular Live Band Karaoke show at Mercy Lounge in Nashville, TN, called "Everybody's a Rockstar" (aka EARS).

...beyond excellent

I first encountered Big Jim Slade, not the character in the Kentucky Fried Movie, opening for KingsX a few years ago. They were so good live that I logged on to the website and bought all their stuff. Pacify the Herd took left me breathless over the first 5 songs and never let up. Now, with This is Delicious, BJS has taken it up another notch. BJS is hard-hitting, riff-driven rock music. Period. Think Les Pauls in drop D tuning, cranked thru Marshalls with Beatles meets Allman Bros. vocals over the top and you will begin to taste the flavor of BJS and This is Delicious. Wicked stuff! Buy and enjoy! And BTW, I have NO affiliaion with this band. They are just d@mn good!

Terrific record

I hadn\'t encountered Big Jim Slade before taking a chance on this album, and the gamble was a winner. The first two thirds of it are particularly fine. I would add Saigon Kick and, especially, King\'s X as bands whose fans will probably like this. I logged on to CDBaby to order some more of these guys, but thought I\'d drop a comment here first.

Another Classic BJS CD!!!!
author: Stephen Albanese
Happy to say it's another killer BJS CD...massive grooves...killer heavy riffs...great vocals and harmonies...it hard to believe this band hasn't got the attention a lot of lesser talented over hyped bands get...these guys are every bit as good and better than bands like Shinedown, Alter Bridge...their songs ooze class...hopefully word of mouth will get these guys the recognition they deserve.
