- SKIP EWING -
Leader of "The Big Kidz Band"
Skip Ewing has already enchanted the adult world with his songs. Now he's working his magic on kids. His "wand" is the wonderfully engaging and riotously funny album, "Indian Elephant Tea", which he recorded with "The Big Kidz Band", a group of Nashville's top studio players. The upshot is that rarest of achievements: irresistable music for children that parents also love to listen to.
As befits a BMI Songwriter of the Year, Ewing composed or adapted most of the music and lyrics for the new album, dipping into such widespread wells of inspiration as nursery rhymes, folk songs and a Duke Ellington classic. Ewing built the title cut around a poem his grandmother wrote. His witty, wordplayful liner notes are a treasure all their own.
A native of California, Ewing began gaining national attention in the late-1980s, both as a songwriter and as a recording artist for MCA and Capitol Records. To date, over 300 of his songs have been recorded of which nearly a dozen have been #1's. His songs have contributed to the sale of more than 80 million albums with hits that include "You Had Me From Hello," for Kenny Chesney; "Love Me," for Collin Raye; "Someone Else's Star," for Bryan White; "Wish You Were Here," for Mark Wills; "Something That We Do," for Clint Black; "I Believe" for Diamond Rio; and his most recent CMA nominated duet with Reba McEntire, "Every Other Weekend".
Other artists who have recorded Ewing's songs include Alabama, Willie Nelson, Reba McEntire, Diamond Rio, Wynonna, Kenny Rogers, Martina McBride, George Jones, Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, George Strait, Merle Haggard, Keith Urban, Kenny Chesney, and many more. His work is also well represented in movies and on television with such credits as The Prince of Egypt, Deep Impact, Northern Exposure, David Letterman, and Oprah.
"We made this record because we believed in the material and the audience," Ewing says. "This is such an important time for families to come together. We truly feel that adults will like this as much as the kids. We couldn't have had more fun making it!"
