Album Notes

A couple months ago I had the chance to venture down into the "deep dirty", the backwoods of Mississippi. As always, I made it a point to keep an ear to the street and by the time I left the crooked letter state my ears were buzzing.

Everybody was talking about a new artist named Big K.R.I.T and after I got a chance to hear his material, I definitely understood why.

At only 19 years of age and under the watchful eye of an Atlanta-based management team, the young artist/producer has already accumulated a catalog of music (I did say a catalog). Influenced by old-school artists like The Dramatics, The Manhattans, and The Ohio Players, Big K.R.I.T is producing and writing his own music with a southern flair that's causing a major stir all over the south with several mixtape appearances and a number of gritty singles.

I got a chance to catch up with a humble K.R.I.T and we discussed his rising success.

K.R.I.T says: "I started out rapping at about 12 years old and started doing shows in and out of clubs and shit along the way, then it got to a point where I got tired of paying for beats and I just stepped back and was like I can play a bunch of instruments anyway from being in the band when I was younger, so fuck paying for beats and shit, and that's how I started producing skills and the rest is history.
