Malformed some time around 1998, Big Shiny is an unashamedly non-commercial outgrowth of Eating Betty and has featured the vocal talents of Tobias and midsch, German friends of ACEtone Studio. The emphasis is primarily, though not strictly on making music through electronic means, with noisy guitars thrown in when deemed appropriate. The music generally has an experimental intent though on occasion hip-gyrating rhythms and infectious melodies invade the studio and sneak into the final mix. The music is produced at ACEtone Studio with collaborative vocal and lyrical input from midsch and Tobias.
Kratzen Fur Das Ebenleben is a collection of material produced by Big Shiny at ACEtone Studio between 2000 and 2004. The music on the CD is strictly and enthusuastically anti-commercial though this does not mean that the music is not at times pleasant, melodic and evocative. And yet sometimes it is anything but. Some boundaries have been pushed, broken or just flaunted and the listener will often be challenged but Big Shiny is certain that the patient listener will be greatly rewarded. To say that the music defies description would be evasive, but avid Kraftwerk, Can and early Cabaret Voltaire fans and those who enjoy the contemporary sounds of Autechre and the Orb will likely embrace Big Shiny as a new force in the electronic avant garde. Listen and be enlightened.
