Album Notes

Big Sky Stringband returned to the studio in December 2006 to record the six songs that would become the "Turning of the Wheel" EP. The band focused on capturing the raw energy of the recording session, perhaps best showcased on "Dialog with John." The songs included on the EP show the band's range from Allman's style jamrock ("Slow Train"), folk ("Eric Heywood"), and raw folk-rock ("Dialog with John") to hillbilly surf music ("Sherman Hemsley"), country ("Get Down Boys"), and eclectic bluegrass ("Rich Koz").

The EP was released in February 2007 and became an instant hit with the band's Chicago fanbase. In fact, the song "Slow Train" was featured on Coke's entertainment Web site during the summer of 2007, increasing the band's exposure to a national and international audience.

"Turning of the Wheel" was recorded and mixed by Stephen Shirk at SHIRK Music & Sound in Chicago and mastered by Dan Stout at Colossal Mastering, Chicago.
