Album Notes

Bill Cain was interested in songwriting at an early age and always liked the songwriters, especially the good guitar players- Paul Simon especially. He moved on to progressive jazz (jazz rock) but eventually came back to folk, still intrigued with the craft of songwriting.

Bill’s family background is steeped in music. His little brother Bob wrote one of the songs on Diverse and Sundry. Bill’s own family is a direct reason for the CD. His daughter Gileah invited him to record an album on her label, Greyhat records. She wanted a certain sound and style and sifted through a lot of her dad’s songs to come up with the present album. She did an excellent job in crafting a sound for the album, and her very musical husband Chris engineered it into a harmonious whole. Gileah sings with Bill on some of the songs, and his daughter Sarah does on one too.

You might perceive from the album that Bill is also a poet, though all the songs on the CD are the products of songwriting, no direct poem-to-song productions. Bill appreciates the mystery of a well-written poem; when it is a song lyric, the listener has the pleasure of unraveling it over repeated listenings.

Most of the songs have two guitar parts- a main one and a harmonized one. This provides a nicely lush backdrop for the quiet, intimate vocals.

We took our time on this album, hoping to give it our best. May our labor of love be a pleasure to you!
