Hello, thanks for stopping by for a look.
For the past 35 years (b. 1960) I've lived, played, and recorded in New York, London, Portland OR, San Francisco, and now Sunnyvale CA. I have been teaching for 25 years and have an M.M. in composition. In addition to live shows and recording, my music has also been used in film and theater.
I have 3 Cds available for purchase and a fourth in the final stages. A short description of each -
Exterior Decoration Number (SYR 10001) 1995
An eclectic mix of pop/rock songs, electronic music (musique concrete), piano and guitar pieces. Guaranteed to contain sounds you haven't heard before. It has 11 originals and a cover of "May I?" by Kevin Ayers. (One piece on this drove my wife's parents' cat crazy...)
Not Blue (SYR 2001) 1998
A solo acoustic CD recorded solely with my Martin in 2 days with no overdubs and minimal editing. It's a blues/country/folk sound with classical influences, mixed with open tunings and a helping of slide guitar. It has 11 originals and 2 covers both stolen from John Fahey, one of which he wrote, and the other is his arragement of a hymn.
Tap Dancing Down Jackass Alley (SYR 2002) 2002
Continuing the idea of "Not Blue" but with more guitars, a piano, percussion and other instruments on almost all the tracks. It's the best sounding CD so far thanks to Will Quinnell who also mixed and mastered the project. (The playing and writing ain't too bad either, he he...) It has 11 originals and a cover of "Embryonic Journey" by Jorma Kaukonen, that includes some great backwards cymbal rolls.
Anza Borrego (SYR 2003) 2006
I switched to electric guitar for most of this one. The music is based on impressions of National Parks, mountains, lakes, and deserts. It evokes (or tries to describe) spaces and landscapes with a nod to the likes of Brian Eno, Pink Floyd, and Edgar Varese. I also play a little synthesizer, bass, and mandolin. It has 4 originals and runs a bit shorter than usual at about 30 minutes. This is not available yet as it's still in the mixing/editing stage, but i'll let you know when it's done. Since it's the latest, I of course, think it's my best...
These are available at CDBABY.COM. Just go there and type in my name. You'll hear a sample of my music, and can buy the physical CD or download. Please feel free to send me your comments, outrages, and of course compliments. I'll get back to you.
Keep pickin'
