Saucer arose charred and smoking from the pile of ashes
that remained of Boston's Big Dipper band in 1992.
When Gary Waleik began his temporary retirement from the biz,
the three remaining Dippers of that 1992 line-up decided to start fresh as Saucer.
Big Dipper singer/guitarist Bill Goffrier was packing a bag of new songs that the Dipper
had not dealt with. Drummer Woody Giessmann soon returned from
The Del Fuegos to rejoin Bill, his childhood friend from Kansas and
former bandmate in The Embarrassment. Bassist John Styklunas
had been pulled somewhat willingly from an orchestra pit, a place
in which "rocking out" was not appreciated. Thus, the Saucer had landed.
Saucer played a handful of Boston shows beginning in 1993, but only recorded a handful of songs.
Until now, these songs were largely unavailable, so in order to bridge the gap between
the Big Dipper 2008 anthology 'Supercluster' and a new Big Dipper
CD in early 2012 , Bill has gathered the best of the tunes for
"The Saucer Years" which is packaged in artwork from the same period.
