Album Notes

Hum, Hiss, Crackle And Pop - The Early Demos Of Bill MacKechnie

~ Back in the dark ages, before all the handy musical super-technology that we now take for granted, songwriter/guitarist Bill MacKechnie (of ANUBIS SPIRE fame) was busy wrestling with a primitive, mostly home built, analog recording setup in an effort to preserve his and his friend's music. Along the way, he wrote, arranged, played and recorded some of the most stylistically diverse of his large catalog of songs. The tunes on this CD represent a broad spectrum of material culled from those still existing early tapes (unfortunately, often 3rd generation and beyond cassette copies). As the title of the CD suggests, they contain countless audio blemishes and imperfections that should be viewed as part of their charm - a bit of audio patina if you will.
From full-fledged demos and simple works in progress to quickly recorded live performances meant merely to save a fleeting idea, these pieces capture a wealth of musical snapshots in time. They reveal an adventurous and evolving artist searching for his unique voice and signature sound. We hope you enjoy this little musical time traveling journey as much as we have.

REVIEWS

More Than Just Hiss
author: Tom Earl
This review is totally biased because Bill is a friend of mine and I was hanging around the Random Bullet studio at the time of some of these recordings. The John McGill songs on this disc are the strangest yet most enjoyable banjo verses guitar shredding in recorded history. I do remember though way too much moonshine in the studio during those sessions. I could tell you so many stories from that studio in those days,(and I may start a web page just for those stories) broken hearts, smashed guitars and music that makes you say, "what the hell is that"? Great songs, great guitar work by "Bill the guitar god" and a look at some honest music untouched by slick marketing departments and record executives..of course no top ten songs on the billboard charts either. But you can't have your sugar and your substance too. If you are a fan of Bill's music this is a little gem to add to your collection. Enjoy.
