"Bill Mathews has done the hard work for us in putting together the largest eclectic collection of culturally specific rhythms in ONE book. 'Conga Joy' is an invaluable reference guide for people who are studying the universal principals of hand drumming."
Arthur Hull, Village Music Circles, author of "Drum Circle Spirit"
Bill Matthews is the best-selling author of THE NEW CONGA JOY instruction book, CD, video and DVD series, as well as the recently released DRUM STORIES. THE NEW CONGA JOY is widely considered to be the bible on the subject of African and Afro-Cuban hand drum rhythms.
Matthews founded his world music center, Fremont Drum, in 1994 featuring instructional drumming classes, drum and dance performances, African music events, a monthly art-andpmusic show, and music-themed eco-travel adventures to Africa and other destinations such as Bali.
"For those drum lover who can't experience Fremont Drum in person, CONGA JOY 1 (57 Rhythms for 1 and 2 Drums) & CONGA JOY 2 ( 24 Ensemble Rhythms) provide an unmatched initiation into the magic of the drum."

author: Rose Schuenemann
This CD is a wealth of rythms, perfect learning rudiments and expanding skills. The rythms are clear, concise, and I appreciate that they have names. I have had to learn by ear. I live in an area where there are no percusson teachers. Thank you for this CD. I recommend it for beginners and for those who want to polish their technique.

If you have poked around the CD Baby site, you may have noticed our category in the "Flavor" section for people who dig educational CDs. Here is one that will automatically go at the top of that list. Bill Matthews delivers a companion CD to his books on learning the underlying musical priniciples and hand-drumming patterns of African and Afro-fused rhythms from the samba to calypso to West African kpanologo styles. Making these rhythms and song styles accessible and clear, "Conga Joy" is an exceptionally helpful and well-packaged instructional CD.
