Bill Phillips has been living, performing and writing in the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains for the past thirty five years. Through his love for Traditional Old Time Mountain Music and Ballads, Bill developed a strong and unique style at an early age. He now resides in Old Fort, North Carolina.
At the age of 16, he moved to Nashville, and began touring throughout the U.S. with the late Mel Street. Bill penned the classic ballad “Smokey Mountain Memories” contributing to hits for Mel Street, bluegrass star Larry Sparks and country music legend Ronnie Milsap. Then he went on to tour with Johnny Paycheck in support of his number one hit “Take This Job and Shove It”.
Bill was a winner in the Chris Austin Song Writers contest at the Merle Watson Festival. He competed along with the likes of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. He also has been a headliner at the famous “Eno River Music Festival” in Durham. North Carolina for the past seventeen years. Audiences throughout the south are turning out to listen and participate in his exciting shows that bring back wonderful memories of growing up in rural southern towns.
Bluegrass Unlimited magazine describes his music as "an area where John Prine meets the Seldom Scene".
This CD is an excellent live recording of just Bill and his guitar. He produced the album and it was recorded and engineered at AMR Studios in Asheville, North Carolina. You can reach Bill at "oldmountainboy@verizon.net
