A late-night atmospheric set performed at the world renowned Paradiso in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
With 8 long playing tracks featuring a lot of bottleneck slide guitar reminiscent of early Ry Cooder plus songwriting and vocals that make us think of young Paul Simon, the album has a laid-back and unique quality.
Coming from the USA where he has performed with the Goodman Brothers,
Grace Slick and Starship, Jorma Kaukonen of Hot Tuna, Dave Mason of Traffic Billy now resides in Heidelberg, Germany.
"...captivates the listener by his consistently exquisite work on his instrument, the slide guitar, ..." (Oldie-Markt, April 2001)
"The musical quality is excellent, ... the performance remarkable ... Super music for the twilight hour!" (Musiker Magazin, 3/2001)
Billy Goodman: guitars, vocals
Andrew Krell: acoustic bass
Martin Schulte: keyboards
Steff Bollack: drums

Hope you come back to Holland soon, Billy!

Since I heard Crooked Smile of The Goodman Brothers (Taxim, 1993), I’m very interested in the music of Billy Goodman. Billy, who nowadays lives in Germany, is a unique singer-songwriter. He writes beautiful folk- and bluessongs and he has a nose for selecting fine tunes to cover. On november 28th 1998 Billy and his friends did a gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam while the tape was running. Seven of the songs he played that night are now gathered on “Live in Amsterdam”. Ship at Sea, composed by Billy and his brother Frank, is probably the best song on the album. It evokes memories to me of Al Stewart, like he used to sound in the 60’s (although Billy has a better voice). Billy is also a highly gifted slide guitarist. Listen for instance to the Robert Johnson-cover Stop Breaking Down and you know what I mean. Hope you come back to Holland soon, Billy!
