Album Notes

Seattle-based billy moon is led by songwriter, Kristy Karen Smith (lead vocals, acoustic guitar). She is joined by Bruce Hazen on guitar, Alan Paisley on bass, and Steve Smith on drums. They have been playing together since 1995.

As they travel the 12 songs that comprise Turn, listeners may think they've stumbled onto a sunny pop band, but that turns out to be just a stop along the way. Still ahead are country-washed love songs, acoustic meditations, and shaded rock songs made darker by the dangerous driving on guitar. Never merely a batch of songs stuck together, the album can be likened to a trip abroad…each country is distinct but the continent remains recognizable in its own right.

The CD was recorded on a vintage 70's two inch tape machine which drummer, Steve, found in a music store and bought on an inspired whim. The band recorded it mostly live and didn't come back digitally, after the fact, to repair or tinker with the music. The goal was to create the warmth and reality of live performance and present an authentic slice of billy moon.

Once again billy moon has made another moving, rockin' cd! Kristy Smith sounds better than ever and her words and vocals are really potant and beautiful and right there for you to take into your heart and feel. The band sounds great too and has some really cool new melodies and sounds going on this time around. The sound quality is really cool too. Basicly I'm saying, I reccomend this reccord!! Also I have to say, if you have the chance to see them, you should. They sound just as awsome in concert and are really fun to go see! Happy listening!

Dialed, pure rock and roll, straight from real life 101.

Dialed, clean, pure rock and roll. Many bands' second records are lacking as they scramble for some more good songs; Billy Moon, on the other hand, simply loves to make music, and Turn is a further refinement. This is thinking person's music in the true lyrical tradition of Briton's XTC, with meaningfully rich, relevant poetics. U love Billy Moon, Baby!

Reflective, deep, mature AND great Rock and Roll!
author: Niles
I love listening to billy moon. If they were only able to play the broad spectrum of musical styles which they do so well, that would be enough to make them worth hearing (and seeing) ... and they certainly are ... but what distinguishes them is the depth, understanding and maturity which they bring to their music. And, in the end, that's what makes music (and life) the most interesting.
