Native Mainer Billy Winn moved to down to Portland from the western mountains in 2003. He had decided to try his hand at song writing after 20 years of fronting cover bands, referring to his genre as alternative country rock pop. He blends his diverse musical tastes by combining southern rock and traditional country with a blues flavor and a touch of Appalachia thrown in. Strong influences began with his first store-bought cassette "Wichita Lineman" by Glen Campbell, wandered through music by Led Zeppelin, and brought him to artists of today like Gary Allan and Jack White. Billy's thirst for everything music has no boundaries. He writes what he knows. After a twenty plus year struggle with hard drugs and alcohol, Billy pulls no punches about the cold, dark reality of addiction and his gratitude for having survived it.
“If you like straight-forward, bluesy, country rock give, it a listen.” – The Phoenix (Sept. 2007)

Excellent Country Rock CD
author: RadioIndy.com
“Nothing to Lose” by Billy Winn is a highly professional and enjoyable modern country album. Billy’s heavy, near-baritone timbre radiates tons of emotion and pierces through the instrumentation. Honest and pure lyrics characterize the poetic makeup of these songs of love and loss. The mid-tempo, emotional ballad “That’s For Sure” delivers some very expressive musicianship and vocals. Other standout tracks include the heavy-with-rock-edge “Waiting On Someone” and the Phil Collins-esque “Honey Brown.” From start to finish, this CD delivers the entire package – beautiful lyrics, great song structure, and sincere vocal performances.
