Album Notes

"To The Stars Through Difficulty" is the Motto of the state of Kansas where Bingo was born.

This recording is his second solo release.

"Ad Astra Per Aspera" consists of a few classic traditionals, a new musical composition for Elizabeth Cotten's "O Babe, It Ain't No Lie" and some original songs that he has written while living in Oregon, Texas, and on the road.

All of the selections offer personal insight into the heart and mind of Bingo as he makes his way through the arduous process of becoming a journeyman drifter and ruminates upon the essences of Life...and Death.

This is a thoughtfully crafted document about being human in an increasingly inhumane world.

Bingo is also known for his critically acclaimed 1998 debut release, "Hom", and for his work with Portland, Oregon psycho-bluegrass champions Golden Delicious. He is currently playing with country-rock 'rounders The Freak Mountain Ramblers, and The Prairie Dogs, a string band featuring Neil Gilpin. He has also appeared as a featured guest musician on recordings by: The Holy Modal Rounders, Peter Stampfel, Richmond Fontaine, Fernando, Pete Krebs, Little Sue, Lynn Conover, Jim Boyer, Lisa Miller and others.

BINGO has received glowing reviews for performance and recording in:
The Rocket, No Depression, Option, The Oregonian, Alternative Press, In Music We Trust, Blue Navigator, and other fine press.

Ad Astra Per Aspera is a medley of rocking and rich tunes.

CD Baby asked me to write you what I thought about Bingo’s albums. Ad Astra Per Aspera is a medley of rocking and rich tunes. As you may know Bingo is a member of a larger band called the Freak Mountain Ramblers. Bingo’s voice is very rich and tender. His ballads gently rock you like a lullaby under a great desert sky. His words are true and very personal. Red Apple Juice has Bingo teaming up with Jimmy Boyer. It is one of my favorite songs although it is hard to pick a favorite tune. I love them all.

Bingo is a winner!
author: Laura T. Lynch of Kweevak.com
Adastra Per Aspera is a fine mix of originals and classic traditionals. Its overall tone is upbeat and flawlessly blends country, folk and bluegrass. This CD captures the sprit of Americana. Bingo’s songs are the good and bad stories of a journeyman and life experiences. His compositions are balanced and well crafted. Bingo's vocals are crisp and clear and unify the overall mood and melody of each track. The pedal steel, violin, banjo and Dobro adds depth, texture and character to Bingo's soundscape. The percussion and bass are right on and create the perfect pace for the CD. 'So Moved' flows on fine fiddle work, smooth vocals and layered instrumentation. 'Sunset' glows with the pedal steel, reflective lyrics and a great country groove 'Red Apple Juice' is a tasty blend of banjos, subtle beats and delicious instrumentation.
