Album Notes

"Singer, multi-instrumentalist Sam Bisbee may not yet be a household name... in the meantime, why not pick up his sensational CD, 'high', so when you inevitably find yourself gushing about Bisbee's impeccable pop smarts and juicy hooks, you'll know what you're talking about." -- Jonathan Perry, Boston Globe "SAM BISBEE, HIGH: Sam Bisbee's lyrics are insightful, poetic and humorous when read on their own, but they are easy to overlook against the catchy musical-clouds-of-pop backdrop of HIGH which has an ambiguous '80s retro feel without being redundant of anything. The production is very present without being pushy to the essential melodic structures of the diverse songs. "You are Here" asks existential questions under the guise of large hooks; and "Real" is an amazing example of the rhythmic possibilities of lyrics -- essentially a boy meets girl rap/play. Bisbee always infuses his songs with human ironies and a spectrum of moods -- stylistically chartering a meeting point between new wave, hip-hop and pop/rock. This is one of the better and more original suprises you are likely to come across this year." --Tyson Schuetze, HARP MAGAZINE "VILLAGE VOICE CHOICE: Bisbee's new CD, High, is easily his best work yet. Reminiscent of better '80s music (there was some, really), he's almost somewhere between a Tom Petty voice and Brit power-pop instrumentation" -- Aber, Village Voice "Sam Bisbee's High is a multi-layered, indelible experience that EVERYONE interested in modern rock should have the fortune to experience." -- Eric Olson, MSNBC here it is. High. 14 brand new, original tracks recorded, once again, with the help of a lot of very talented friends: drummer Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Mike Viola), keyboard player Peter Adams (Tracy Bonham, Juliana Hatfield), guitarist Jack Petruzzelli (Joan Osbourne), engineer Pete Keppler (David Bowie), Grammy nominated mixer Marty Brumbach (Laurie Anderson, Clem Snide) and Grammy award winning mixer Bo Boddie. Over the course of what would become a year of intensive work, Sam walked with his hard-drive through some of the best studios in Manhattan. But the place where the most work happened was steps from Sam's bed in his NYC apartment studio where his laptop gave him the power to sit by himself, for hours, days, sometimes months having fun, editing, remixing, looping, experimenting. Moments before bringing his finished album to top mastering engineer Emily Lazar, Sam was still remixing. When she finally got to work, he collapsed on the couch.

Sam Bisbee is sure a talented man.
author: Pär Winberg, Editor in Chief, melodic.net
Sam Bisbee is sure a cool guy. His last album "Vehicle" was a very nice moment in intelligent pop with great lyrics and a very unique touch. The new album continues in the same vein and the album is filled with pearls like the Eels-smelling "Alright" and the cooool "You Make Me High". For all you freaks who enjoy E and his pals in Eels and Beck at his best moments and missed Sam... Well, I can sure tell you all that u missed something. This man is playing in the same league. On a few tracks hes more a substitute to Ron Sexsmith and Jason Mraz than the just mentioned. Which also a damn fine. Check him out and listen at his homepage. Sam Bisbee is sure a talented man.
