Album Notes

Richard Hilburn of the Los Angeles Times sites bitch and animal's latest release, eternally hard, as one of the top ten freshman albums of 2001:

"There was a lot of the usual confrontation and anger in rock this year, but not much extremism, which is one of the virtues of this female duo's "eternally hard" album, from Ani Difranco's label, Righteous Babe Records.

The language is crude in places, but the body-part references are often broadsides at stereotypes in these tales of sexual and social politics.

There is a lesbian sensibility at work, with a humor and underlying vulnerability that is almost always universal.

The pair can also wrap a lot of commentary into a single line: "I'm just a little girl boy/trying to make my way/in a man's world."

Eternally Hard

What an incredible album - buy it!! Some gorgeous girls took my partner and I to a 'can't miss' Bitch gig last year at Provincetown's Womens Week. We were blown away by this incredibly talented, inventive, lady lover. Since then I've bought a couple of her albums, been to see her in my home town and will be taking several friends to her August gig in Manchester for their conversion. I'll be back for more Bitch and Animal - full blast on country lanes, high on a new perspective.

I heard of Bitch and Animal through a friend, who told me to listen to them. I fell in love immediately! One day a friend and i were wandering through HMV looking up Ani, and out the corner of my eye, i saw this CD sitting all lonely on the shelf. Grabbed it and bought it right there. Into the stereo it went, and rarely ever leaves it! This CD is inspiring, and so honest it makes you smile as soon as you hear the first bass line. Their lyrics are so crude and real, no one else does this. Singing about female biology, body parts and sexuality takes balls, and Bitch and Animal have balls. Actually, you might say they have EGGS...
