"Pussy Manifesto" was originally released as the secret bonus track of Bitch and Animal's debut cd, "What's that Smell?" (Dive Deep Productions 1999) Originally inspired by one of Bitch's friends Anne, who came up with the idea to use the word "pussy" to be a compliment and "eggs" to mean strong (instead of the widely accepted male reference "balls"). As the two adopted this into their language, Animal suggested to Bitch that she write the "Pussy Manifesto." And so its legacy was born. The duo went on to tour with Ani Difranco, dropping the jaws of her audience worldwide. Their in-your-face politics mixed with sexual liberation became Bitch and Animal's stamp on the world.

Now, over 10 years later, Bitch has re-recorded the song after performing it well over a thousand times. This version was recorded in her hometown of NYC, engineered by Viv Stoll, mixed by Roger Paul Mason, and backed up by The State Of, an awesome two-woman band from Miami, FL. Manifest THAT!!

xoxoIf you like Ani Difranco, you will love these girls as well!!!! *** Make sure that if you DO get this CD, listen to the extra track at the end called "Pussy Manifesto" it is an amazing little chant backed with Animal's crazy drum beats, and incredible voice. It questions the implications that male and female genitalia have on our gender associations. For instance, they ask, why is it that if you are a manly man of courage, then you must have BALLS! But, on the other hand, if you are a weak, scared person, then your a PUSSY?? Why is that? And why do we tolerate this sort of gender slander?? Hmmm... If any of these issues are thought-provoking for you, then you would love this CD, because it is FULL of these sorts of questions, and I would highly recommend buying it as soon as possible!!!!!! :)

xoxoalthough i was initially shocked by the hard-core, uninhibited lyrics of bitch & animal, after listening to their incredibly clever lyrics and seeing the excellent show that they put on (opening for Ani DiFranco in Albany, NY)i was thoroughly impressed. Although I would not recommend this one to my grandmother, b&a introduce an innovative musical spin to gender/transgender performance art that is not only intelligent but highly entertaining.
