Album Notes

BitterSweet hails from the Iron Range of Northern Minnesota near Bob's hometown and grew up steeped in the legacy that is Bob Dylan. Bob's roots are in Hibbing, Minnesota and Mary and Jay have a unique understanding of Bob's music and where it comes from.
Mary Jo Grizzard has fronted some of the Twin Cities' most popular bands over the past 30 years. Her soulful vocals and piano chops have wowed audiences across the nation. Now, back home on the Iron Range, she has reunited with Jay Hoiland, who brings 30 years of his own performing and recording expertise and a clear rock and roll sensibility. Together as BitterSweet, Mary and Jay breathe amazing new energy into timeless Dylan masterpieces.
Listen to the explosive energy from the very first note of Mr. Tambourine Man, and then, check out the spin on I Shall Be Released, as BitterSweet truly makes it their own.
You've heard all of these songs before. All Along the Watchtower is one of the most covered rock songs of all time, but you've never heard it like this. Seriously.
"Mary and Jay... Do Bob" is released in conjunction with Dylan Days in Hibbing, Minnesota and the Ironworld exhibit "Tangled Up In Ore...Dylan and the Iron Range." I think that you will enjoy these masterful stylings of Dylan's great songwriting gift as these "Rangers" pay homage to one of their homeboys.

Mary and Jay...Do Bob
author: Ian Kinman
This little CD is a treasure. Is songs are familiar to all who treasure Dylan's work, but the material on the CD is nuanaced and "changed" to let some of the artists' expression and feelings shine through. Dylan himself--who apparently believes that each of his songs is a work in progess--would approve!!

Worth the $

Not much for me to add to the notes from Mark Vos except that he knows what a better than average Dylan cover sounds like. I am an avid Dylan cover collector who has listened to thousands of versions from hundreds of artists...and this collection from Mary & Jay is quite EXCELLENT!! When will Volume 2 be available?!
