Jazz Great Bix Beiderbecke died on August 6th 1931 in New York City. And exactly 40 years later over 2000 people gathered together in his hometown of Davenport Iowa to celebrate his life & music. And so here is the First Bix Bash on CD for Bix Fans & music fans to enjoy.
It's Music History!...

In The Beginning…
While most people think the BIX FESTIVAL Started In July of 1972, The First Bix Bash really started on August 6th of 1971 with a few Jazz Musicians from around the country playing over Bix Beiderbecke’s grave 40 years after Bix had died such a young tragic death in New York City in 1931. Surprisingly, apx 900 people showed up at the grave site performance that morning along with Jazz Players from Chicago, Orlando, New Jersey & of course Davenport Iowa Playing The DAVENPORT BLUES & other Bix Songs…

Later that day they moved to the top deck of a Mississippi Riverboat & Jammed All Day rolling down the Mississippi River. Then finally, 2000+ people & more Jazz-Players congregated at the North Brady Holiday Inn and Jammed out to Dixieland Jazz played in the Style of young Bix Beiderbecke All Night Long. And this is where these recordings where captured.
You'll feel like you're on a Riverboat listening to Box in the 1920's. This CD is a real Time Machine of Great Music!

Bix Bash brightens our day

I bought this CD ten months ago and still play it at least once a week. The sound quality is not absolutely pristine, but it's obvious that love and care went into this production, and the joy and the charm of the performances blaze through. My African grey parrot adores the 1971 Bix Bash as much as I do. He never fails to dance and vocalize a “snapping fingers” sound as soon as he hears the first bars. We consider it a five-star winner at our house. We're so glad it was released.

Don O'Dette and the pick-up band on this disc do Bix proud. The recording is not perfect, but the band's love of the music shines thru. If you love Bix and the music of his era, give it a listen and smile. Also recommended, the music of Bobby Hackett, Jack Teagarden and Spiegal Wilcox.
