Bryan James Gatten is a 14-year-old guitar player who, at the age of 3 and armed with his Mickey Mouse guitar, first jammed with his bass playing dad.
Although BJ lives in the picturesque western Connecticut town of Ridgefield, he has fallen in love with the blues. His love of the blues and his desire to play have resulted in his current CD called, "A Package from Home" Bryan and his dad co-wrote the majority of the songs on the CD and had it recorded and mastered at New Song Productions of Ridgefield. Some songs sprang to life as they jammed in the basement of their house; other songs had their beginning as they spent time together at the National Guitar Workshop during the summer of 2001.
Bryan's playing style can probably best be described as Steve Morse morphing into Jeff Beck with Stevie Ray's passion for playing. He has open invitations from area nightclubs to perform whenever he is available.
One of the local area's largest newspapers, the Danbury News-Times, recently featured a front page article on BJ and his CD project.
The president of the New England Blues Society said, "I can't seem to take the CD out of my CD player; I keep listening to it over and over."
The Ridgefield Press said, "It's got a lot of soul" in an April 4th review of 'A Package from Home.'
Bryan and his dad, Eric, are currently working to arrange a tour for the summer of 2003. They are looking forward to playing at blues festivals in both the U.S. and Europe. They have even received invitations to play from as far away as Okinawa.
'A Package from Home' is currently receiving airplay in Europe and on various university radio stations in New England. Cuts from 'Package' can also be heard on www.bluefishradio.com and dirtyblues.com
