With its lyrical melodies, rhythmic grooves, and lush harmonies, “This Side Up” takes the listener on a journey through the varied musical soundscape that is contemporary jazz. Pianist Barbara Jones and bassist Henrik Bridger seamlessly explore styles that include elements of upbeat pop, driving funk, sultry mood music, and samba, approaching each of these genres with a keen jazz sensibility. Barbara’s expressive piano and Henrik’s in-the-pocket bass make this album a satisfying listening experience. Their performances are complemented by a stellar group of musicians including saxophonist Eric Marienthal, guitarists Jamie Bonk, Vince Mellone, and Stefan Rosqvist, drummer Daria Johnson, and percussionist Omar Ledezma.

This musically fashionable duo debut in the Smooth Jazz arena with the exciting and melodic THIS SIDE UP. Pianist/keyboardist Barbara Jones and bassist Henrik Bridger have been playing together for the better part of this decade. THIS SIDE UP may be the first project where contemporary jazz fans discover the Bridger/Jones offerings because the two have been immersed in other music palettes… Jones has a classical background, while Sweden’s Bridger comes from more of a rock fusion background. The focus here is on tasteful contemporary jazz featuring fine performances by special guests, including world-renown saxophonist Eric Marienthal who weaves his distinctive brand onto some of the project’s most accessible tunes like the contagious title track. Get this upscale, fun and fashionable release… right this way to THIS SIDE UP.

"This Side Up" is a great mix of tuneful ballads and up-tempo cuts, all beautifully played and recorded. Eric Marienthal’s soulful sax on a number of tracks compliments the grooves and melodies laid down by Jones, Bridger and friends. And if you are also a fan of traditional jazz standards, check out this duo's website (www.bridgerjones.com) for more wonderful recordings.
