notes
Black Bear Crossing began with the friendship of two women who met over 20 years ago while participating in a musical theatre production. A common interest in the hammered dulcimer and other folk instruments led to weekend jams, and the invitation to other musician friends to join them. Eventually what began as a living room gathering expanded to performances in the community and beyond. Since the members traveled back roads in order to hold a practice session they selected a name which reflects a common thread-the occasional sighting of a Pennsylvania black bear enroute to the rehearsal site.
A wide variety of instrumentation includes flute, whistle, fiddle, Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, keyboard and bass. The repertoire, as reflected in their new CD "The Trail" crosses many paths and lands-Ireland, Scotland, Klezmer, Old Timey American, and contemporary tunes. This CD includes the guest artistry of Melissa Becker on fiddle. Melissa is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in music at Austin, TX.
