The Blackbird Revue are storytellers. Their songs, at times soaringly triumphant, yet often sparse and haunting are the settings in which these stories are told. Lyrically, they paint vivid, beautiful pictures of love, loss, and longing, of characters both fictional and real. Into these stories, is breathed the life, the soul of Blackbird's music; melody, harmony and rhythm, passion, glory and heartbreak. The husband and wife team of Jacob and Danielle Prestidge blend sepia-toned Americana and indie-rock with seamless ease to create a sound and feel all thier own, yet hinting at ghosts of Patsy Cline, The Swell Season, Band of Horses. Over the years, The Blackbird Revue have honed a very personal, impacting live show, while performing with such artists as Over the Rhine, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Switchfoot.
Reviews:
"Worn, comfortable americana. The sway of "Mother's Radio" has a weathered, easy flow that's as rustic as a chipped porch swing." - Elke Mermis, The Pitch magazine, Kansas City
"The Blackbird Revue puts together folk, indie, and country sounds in a very sophisticated manner. Great songwriting and execution. "The Lion's Mane" is one of the most beautiful melodies I've heard all year. Get to know this band. Trust me."
- Michael Byars, KCUR Radio, 89.3fm, Kansas City
"Beautiful production, lovely melodies, and intelligent lyrics. Nice work all the way around." - Diana Linn Ennis, KKFI Radio, 90.1fm, Kansas City
"The Blackbird Revue catch a sound that speaks of late autumn days spent in clear-headed and heartfelt reminiscence of life. Where Jacob's crystal-light voice seems custom made for Simon & Garfunkel's most stratospheric melodies, Danielle has a more throated and smokey tone, which carries the more somber emotional weight woven throughout the EP; the blend makes for an exquisite pairing, like lemon water and red wine." - J.R. Myszka

Fresh music blended with dynamic vocals
author: Eric Walker
I've been spinning this a lot since I bought this a week ago. Absolutely stunning disc with so many layers, it baffles me that such a young collection of musicians are responsible for this. Solid both lyrically and musically, The Whaler & Other Stories covers and crosses so many boundaries that it's very hard to stick a label on them. The Whaler has the searing guitar of U2 or Coldplay, but eases back with the beautiful "Without You" which could easily be on an Alison Krauss. My only complaint is it isn't long enough.
Great work, guys.
