Album Notes

Seattle's Black Cat Orchestra has played for bars, weddings, silent films and cafes since 1991. They perform old pop songs from the Mediterranean, Eastern Europe and Asia and elsewhere, with a dreamy and cinematic feel.

The Black Cat Orchestra's first, self-titled album features songs from Greece, Korea, Turkey, Mexico, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. Each is rendered with verve and subtlety, and a wry but respectful disregard for the rules of stylistic protocol. Shortly after the album's release, it inspired David Byrne to hire them as a back-up band for a song on his album, Feelings.
