It had been decades since their high school rock band, Ground Zero, succumbed to the realities of work and family. But Chip and David decided to give it another go, forming the “Black Cats,” a blues band, with the rest of the Ground Zero crew: Joe Lemanski and Henry Nigro, as well as new drummer Rick McCarthy.
It was as if nothing had changed since those weekends they spent rocking the local coffee houses and high school dances in the 1960s.
“Once we started playing together again, the connection was almost instantaneous,” Lemanski said. “These channels that were just kind of etched in my musical background – everything just fell into those channels.”
There was Chip on keyboard and vocals, Joe on bass, Henry on guitar and vocals, Rick on drums, and, of course, David, the guy who Lemanski said could play Clapton better than anyone except Clapton, on guitar. Sure, everyone was a little older, but as Lemanski said, “it was the like the good old days, only better.”
But just as the Black Cats were getting started, Kenney broke the news: he had been diagnosed with cancer. For his friends and bandmates, the thought of losing Dave didn’t register at first.
What at first seemed like years away suddenly was within months, and Kenney’s friends rushed to give him something that could encapsulate their years of musical brotherhood: the Black Cats first and only recorded album. Henry Nigro recorded, mixed, and mastered their album at Attica Studios in 3 months time to provide Dave some legacy material. Everyone chipped in and did whatever was necessary, and this labor of love is now available for you to buy ! :-)

I got interested in this style of music when I took a Blues class where we learned about the history of blues, and heard a lot of different groups play. I'll tell you one thing, these guys are up there with the best. They rock!! This CD is incredible; the lyrics are fun, the musicians and great, and the vocalist is perfect! This guitarist is VERY talented, a real pleasure to listen to. This CD is just plain fun.!!

RRRippingly great! The last time I saw them play was in 1970. So nice to have a piece of those times now - only better.
