BLACK ROCKS was formed in Moscow, Russia in 2009 by two brothers Nikita and Alexander Pozdnyakov. The band just finished recording their debut album titled I’d Rather Be Alone.
BLACK ROCKS brings on it’s unique musical signature by cleverly incorporating various influences of many musical styles into their own.
The lead singer, Nikita Pozdnyakov, started his musical carrier at the age of 8, when his father (musician and composer) discovered his singing talent. Growing in a musical home, Nikita was exposed to all kinds of great music throughout his teenage life. He is a brilliant songwriter and also an actor. Nikita performed in Moscow’s musical theaters in leading roles such as Jesus Christ Superstar and Hair and with his cover band opened for Joe Lynn Turner and Graham Bonnet.
The guitarist/vocalist, Alexander Pozdnyakov, is a winner (grand-prix) of All-Russia Guitar Competition in Moscow in 2009 and finalist of Guitar Idol III, 2011 in London. He grew up with Nikita when he started writing music and playing guitar at the age of 11. Alexander is a student of the vocal faculty in the renown Gnesins Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.
The man behind the drums, Alexei Saveliev, no stranger to music playing since his early childhood. It was a natural development, because his mother was a singer and his father was a drummer. After graduating music school, Alexei played in different bands of the most popular Russian musicians and also performed as a drummer in well-known musicals, such as We Will Rock You and Mamma Mia.
The bass player, Andrei Travkin, discovered music when he was thirteen with his classmates. He tried to play many different instruments, but his final choice fell on the bass guitar. When he was fifteen, Andrei started to play in his first professional band. Since then he was a member of a number of famous Russian bands. He graduated from Music College (Bass Guitar, Jazz Department) and now he’s a student of the world music culture faculty in the Russian Classical Academy.
BLACK ROCKS started performing as a cover band playing the best hits of great rock bands such as Queen, AC/DC , Metallica, Whitesnake, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Nickelback, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, etc. and they became one of the most popular cover bands in Moscow with vast experience in live performing. They have won Moscow’s Cover Band Championship, in May 2011. Right after that, while enjoying their success, they started working on their original material.
