Album Notes

She sings with the wisdom of age.
Her vocals, soaring, passionate, and warm, mirror the emotions of her words, the perspective of a woman who has already experienced much in life. But singer/songwriter Blair Hansen is only 21. Blessed with a crystalline, transcendent voice a la Sarah McLachlan and a startling ability to write deeply moving lyrics with an older woman's soul, Hansen is among San Francisco's most promising new talents. Her sophomore album Smile captures the heart of a young artist who has already found her own style, her own place in a music world cluttered by artificiality. Hansen's feelings are felt through each shimmering note of her acoustic guitar and the unguarded sincerity of her vocals. Hansen observes life with an unblinking eye and a poet's ear. From the sun-drenched energy of "Listen" to the radiant glow of "Final Goodnight," Smile is brimming with timeless charm.

Unblinkingly beautiful and heartfelt
author: Tracy, Bill Graham Presents
Thank you Blair. Thank you Clay Bigham. Thank you Steve. I knew Blair was something special when I heard her first album on CDBaby back in February. When I saw her play at the Stork in Oakland, I knew she had "it" - that elusive light that shines in the best musicians, lyricists, vocalists. "Smile" is a fantastic second album. I especially love Fit, Who She Is, and Six Colors. Blair is, quite frankly, poised to do something incredibly important. Music can creep in to the crevices of the soul where understanding, tolerance, and love lie dormant - even in the hearts of bitter, angry folks. Like liquid, it unsettles the sediment of fear, of self-righteousness and mixes it all up until those parts are permanently changed and they settle back into something entirely new. Anyway, Blair's music, just like that of the Heather Combs Band and Sarah McLachlan, is healing music for the soul. It picks you up, shakes you out, and makes you better than you were before (or at least you see the world differently). Waiting for #3. Bring it on - and soon!
