The fact that this is a jazz duo record featuring John Blake on violin and Sumi Tonooka on piano makes it a special release, and there is more -It chronicles the end of a ten day midwest tour in March of 2000, and vividly captures the twenty year musical comraderie and chemistry that John and Sumi share.
Their choice of material is first rate with scintillating readings of Thelonius Monk's "Evidence" to Bud Powells "Parisienne Thoroughfare. This cd also feature a sweeping arrangement of Tonooka's composition "Susumu", from a larger commissioned work, in reponse to the Japanese Internment experience and John Blakes metrically dazzling "Maiden Dance" with strong East Indian influences.
