BIOGRAPHY: Joe Blanda is not just a singer-songwriter/guitarist. Growing up in Southeast Texas, just across the Sabine River from Louisiana, he soaked up a wide array of musical styles — blues, rock, pop, R&B & country — while listening to the radio, playing his LPs, and checking out bands in bars on both sides of the river.
While attending UT Austin in the early 1970s, he began to discover great things in the Live Music Capital of the World — a treasure of blues, rock, and country music. It was about then that he also began writing songs & poetry, which he's been doing for over thirty years.
Musical heroes include Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, The Band, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, The Stones, The Doors (gotta love the '60s!). More recently, Los Lobos, the Subdudes, the Nevilles, Sting — a wide array of influences that can be heard on Joe Blanda's CD "The Moon in the Man."
REVIEWS OF "THE MOON IN THE MAN" FROM AROUND THE WORLD . . .
Roland Goity, OnlineRock:
"Inside most CD slush piles resides a musical gem. THE MOON IN THE MAN (despite its trite album title and Doug Henning-like cover) is such an album. BLANDA, a veteran of the Austin, TX music scene, croons soulfully through a wide variety of material here: blues, ballads, alt country, rock and R&B.
From the first track BLANDA'S adept voice and band's catchy rhythms will have you smiling and tapping your feet. This album does Austin proud. Its Texas-style rockin' blues are the next best thing to a night on 6th Street.
Favorite Track: Track 7, FOUNTAIN OF LOVE . . ."
Magnus Eriksson, Stockholm, Sweden:
"A smooth touch . . . funky rhythm section . . . laid-back singing style . . . with an attack and self-conscious attitude in his guitar playing that contrasts nicely with the music."
Jan Andersson, "Country Rock Specialisten," Gothenburg, Sweden (distributing Austex music throughout the Nordic countries): "Like a mix of Stephen Bruton and John Hiatt . . . The songs are melodious and have a natural force . . . Many of them have a timeless feel that gives them a certain 'live favorite' potential . . . JOE is also a skilled guitarist. He plays short, well-disposed solos but is also smart enough to clear a space for Floyd Domino's piano."
Marc Nolis, "Rootstown Music Magazine," Belgium's leading American roots and World music magazine, noted the fine blend of rock, blues, and jazz.

Astounding relief
author: Eric van den BoschAy! Just ordered this one by mistake and very happy with it! Yes, really astounding to hear this artist. Did he choose to be 'not famous'? Did he wave aside contracts from EMI, BMG, Sony,...? Really fabulous CD with some accents of The Shadows 'guitar riffs' now and than and a faint familiarity in the voice (anybody know Tanita Tikaram?). Since I did not really want this CD I did my very best to dislike it, but I failed! I like every song on it and I am not even ashamed anymore, so here it is: Great CD!
