My music falls into the contemporary folk category. It is a blend of
acoustic and electric guitar, keyboards, percussion and vocals. I try to
compose a unique feeling using syncopated rhythm and lighthearted
lyrics.
I attempt to put some order on my table, I want to be secure. I sing
about social struggles we face every day. I attempt to mend our
relationships torn as we strain against adversity and mockery. I'll
pacify negativity with humor and delight.
I am confident I have carved out a niche in the world of music. I will
continue to compose with the same formula that has made me what I am.
I'm going to keep writing and playing the way I want to, I won't perform
any other way. I'll keep trying to be unique.
I grew up in a small town in north central Washington. Music has always
been a part of my life. I'm working on my 9th CD. I am a voting member
of the Grammys and my last 3 CDs have been listed for preliminary vote
in the Contemporary Folk section.

"Delicate Eyes" is the latest offering by folk singer/songwriter Brian L. Hughes. Mr. Hughes is a born lyricist and self-described "hopeless romantic." This CD is full of love songs sung in a style reminiscent of
folk music of the 60's and 70's. Brian's voice calls back memories of Dylan and Johnny Cash and is perfect for these songs! The poetic lyrics are set very simply with a single vocal line and acoustic guitar - an artistic choice which matches the simplicity of the message of these songs. Even the recording and mixing which is done by the artist adds to the "grass-roots Americana" feel of this album. The beautiful "Breath of Our Design" is an example of the fine writing that characterizes Mr. Hughes' songs with
lyrics that resist and wrap around the traditional 8-bar phrase. Folk music fans will love this music from the heart! Pick up a copy today!
