Bringing disparate ideas and conceptions together, Blood of Roses forms a sonic tapestry uncommon in contemporary music.
Reviewers such as Music Connection have called BoR "avante-garde" utilizing "evocative soundscapes" while the on-line zine Weird Times has labeled them "cyber-gothic" with "lyrics from the dark side". In Yugoslavia, Radio "Politika" coos "SANGUE ......is the sound of the midnight ceremony ... the voice of BIRD is amazing, no-one sounds like she does."
Perceptions, dualities, alternate realities--these are subjects explored in "Sangue", Blood of Roses' EP release. Even as you listen to this, their first offering, James and Bird are expanding upon "Sangue", exploring new electronic sounds and apperceptions, seeking the muse of life, beauty, and anguish in their new CD "Iconic".
Blood of Roses is gothic not in the Hammer Horror way but in a more literary sense. The lyrics are Gothic as Shelley, Bronte, and Byron and Gothic. The music is Gothic in architecture; massive but with moments of filigree, brooding, dark but upward reaching. Spiritual but irreligious.
