Album Notes

Those Bloody McKennas. The name of the band is as catchy and unique as the music they play.

Take your standard guitar/bass/drums lineup – now add piano accordion, flute, lap slide mandolin and a passion for creating dynamics within songs that swell, surge, cascade and dissolve upon the ear of the listener. This five-member act performs their own infectious brand of acoustic rock music. They are a band brought together initially by family ties, but are now gathering fellow travellers on an odyssey moving further and deeper into the possibilities of Australian roots music than most bands dare to dream of treading. Their songs are moving, well crafted and typically Australian in their expression and delivery.

Those Bloody McKennas have a strong history of touring far and wide on minimal budgets. Since 1999 the act has been performing, travelling, running workshops and developing partnerships and friendships across Australia. They have played countless festivals and venues. They have performed with some of Australia's current top acts and an array of emerging artists. In the process the act is challenging pre-conceived ideas of acoustic music, while actively contributing to the success of independent business models within the music industry.

As self managed, independent artists, Those Bloody McKennas own their own songs, make their own decisions and take their own risks.

Those Bloody McKennas have a sound. It's the sound of staring out the window of a car that's been sitting on a 100k's for what seems like hours, watching the landscape rush by. It's the sound of a packed front bar surrounded by hundreds of heads nodding in unison to the throbbing bassline, locked into a driving rhythm. It's an Australian sound. It's an honest sound. It's the truly unique and infectious sound of ...Those Bloody McKennas!

Those Bloody McKennas have been in the studio with the EP ‘Time & Tide’ for most of 2004. Recorded in Melbourne, (Australia),and mixed by ARIA award winning Chris Thompson, it captures a passionate live intensity, and produces some electrifying sounds from acoustic instruments that will inspire new heights for the ever-expanding roots-rock genre.

The music on Time & Tide carries you upon a rising and curling emotional wave. It'll make you reflect, it'll make you dance, it'll make you cry! From the oceanic therapeutic bliss of 'Turquoise Bay', to the monstrous spiralling mandolin riff of 'Circles', to the fuzz-wah flute and ball-busting bouzouki battle in 'Grace Emily Jam', to the hauntingly epic and politically biting 'Time & Tide'... you are in for a captivating voyage.
