Shake You Down is a collection of songs that walk the line of old and new. 8 original songs plus one haunting cover of the Otis Rush (Willie Dixon penned) song “My Love Will Never Die” with special guest Reggie Miles on the musical saw. The Healers gently grace country on the pedal steel driven “Help is on the Way” which stands at the other end of the frenetic “You’re gonna Miss My Lovin” while “Come See About Me” and “Witness” leave no question of the bands roots in the blues. A slew of Seattle’s alternate blues current guest on the album, lending their unique skills to many of the albums’ tracks.
Initially formed as a blues cover act in 1999, Don(guitar) and Diane(vocal/bass) Forsyth pursued sounds of other favorites that weren’t necessarily blues, like Neil Young, Sparklehorse, Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt while still paying homage to blues greats like Howlin’ Wolf, Otis Rush and their contemporary, Tom Waits. The band has continued to thrive in pursuing the blend of the past and present, which became easier once united with drummer and pianist Billy Spaulding.

great modern blues

I especially love the first three songs. By the time I get to the crankin' guitar intro on Witness, I feel plugged in. By the end of that song, I just want to lie on the floor, close my eyes, and discorporate.
