Album Notes

A wonderful collection of some of the most delightful melodies of an age when society was rather indulgent in both style of entertainment and the musical selection chosen to accompany its grand style of dining. If you have experienced breakfast at Tiffany's, High Tea at Harrods, Dinner on board the Titanic, or Supper on the Zeppelin....This collection is for you. Immediately you are transported to the grand era of where life moved a little slower and the finer movements were savored a little longer. -

The selection includes one of the finest - if not the finest - arrangements of the Blue Danube, Pachelbel's Canon, La Paloma, La Golondrina, Perfect Day, Danny Boy (Tune from County Derry) and really rare gems, whose composers are hardly known today like "Simple Aveu" and "The Song of Songs".

For the first years this CD was sold only locally, in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains in Australia (that's where the "Three Sisters" are). Within 2 years more than one in a hundred of Blue Mountains people owned one.
One of the top hotels in Katoomba copied our "Cafe Continental" and put it on a loop. We went in to listen and left after hearing it for the ninth time in a row. Today we were told, it is still playing, and everybody is well and healthy.

Top downloads:
1 Canon in D (Pachelbel)
2 La Paloma (Italian Traditional)
3 Two Guitars (Russian Traditional)

Our Favorites:
Gustaw: The Song of Songs (Moya)
Georg: Told at Twilight (Huerter)
Gavin: Simple Aveu (Thome)

A not so boring cello part for the Pachelbel Canon (as on the CD) can be found on the sheetmusic web page of the website above.

The Blue Mountains Trio is based in Katoomba, Blue Mountains, Australia (The surrounding forest is World Heritage listed National Park).
Members are Gustaw Szelski - violin / Georg Mertens - cello, both living in Katoomba and Gavin Tipping - piano, who recently moved to Mudgee, one of the finest wine growing areas of Australia.

Georg and Gavin recorded in 2008 their CD "Cello Favourites", recorded in Gavin's studio, Mudgee.

Gustaw and Georg form between them also the "Paganini Duo" (see their CD's "Blue Mountains Gypsies" & "An Hour in Heaven")

Georg Mertens published recently his ground breaking article: "Rethinking Bow Technique" on his website (see link). The article analysis systematically, which factors contribute to our sound production, enabling us taking charge of making 'our' sound.
