Album Notes

BLUES Straight Up is a classic/traditional blues band and is often described as a blues ensemble. The band - an East Los Angeles based roots-low down blues band.
Performance & style embraces a diverse interpretation of the Blues and Blues & Rhythm - originals, the classics, electric blues, serve up some sassy female attitude and throw down a touch of Chicano Blues-“Blues in Español”.

It’s a mixed bag of blues players working collectively and individually to bring you the best in Live Blues. Countless influences affect the band’s style and each personality and playing/vocal style fits. It’s not the polish…it’s the feeling.

THE BAND:
Bass - Big Mike Rincon
Vocals - Lava Gonzalez
Harp/sax/vocals - Dave "Harpdog" Pearce
Guitar - Dave New
Keyboards - James Rodriguez
Drums - Carlos Carrion

A Spicy Blues Album with a Latin Flavor

I was impressed with this cd at the very first song. It has a distinct vibe and the band even puts their own stamp on the cover songs. Lava Gonzales' vocals are truly impressive and the band compliments her nicely. This isn't a band made up of first timers. These guy have been around the block for sure. The rhythm section on this cd is worthy of strong attention as Big Mike Rincon lays down a unshakeable foundation for what is an excellent cd. The original songs will impress you and although previously written blues songs have been covered by just about every blues band, Blues Straight Up actually revitalizes these old beat up tunes. The band gives some of the songs a Latin flavor and they do it in excellent fashion. That is what sets this cd apart from others I've heard. There is nothing flashy here. Simply put, this is a great band overflowing with talent and a great cd. I highly recommend it!
