Blue Steel 44 has been described as one of the most dynamic garage bands to appear since the golden era of garage bands in the 60's and 70's. Currently, the group is composed of Matt "Luther" Wells, who is the lead singer and plays keyboards; Jeff "the Monster" Grau, who plays rhythm and lead guitars; and Phil "Onion" Valochik who plays rhythm and bass. The group's music is characterized by driving blues-rock coupled with rock ballads. Blue Steel was produced by Grammy winning producer Scott Mathews (Dick Dale, John Hiatt, Roy Orbison, and more recently Rock N Roll Soldiers). Blue Steel has also worked with American Music Award Winner Mark Avsec (Wild Cherry, Donny Iris, Bon Jovi).
The distinctive clamour of Blue Steel came out of a series of jam sessions in the basement of Matt and PJ Wells' house. Phil V and Jeff would come over and just jam. "Some one would come up with a groove and we would just run with it" says lead singer Matt "Luther" Wells. Blue Steel's music brings back the roots of rock, but with a bit of a psychotic kick. The album features the songwriting talent of Phil PJ Wells, Phil Valochik, and Matt Luther Wells. The album also highlights the guitar stylings of Jeff "the Monster" Grau.
!Attention! News Flash! Blue Steel 44 has finished a new album titled "Karakorum" with new singles entitled "Karakorum!" "Southern Train" and "Just Another Con Job." Stay Tuned, it is due to be released on cdbaby in the coming month. Also, a new compilation entitled "May You Have the Blues" is also scheduled for release in February 2009. It features some of Matt Luther's solo work as well as originals by band members. Hope you all enjoy.

I am writing this review because Freebase cheaped out by only giving "BS44:Recluse" four stars. I told him to give them five stars...but he forgot...He hasn't been the same since the motorcycle accident! Sorry. Foley out!

When I first met these guys I couldn't believe how rockin' they were! They played "Billy" for me and I really dug the groove, and I begged them to let us record it in the studio! They wouldn't, but they listened to me on "Here in Kingston!" Great bongo solo guys and I love the tambs! DaveyJones-like to be sure. For anyone reading this...if you haven't bought this CD you'd better do so soon or so Foley tells me! Later dudes! Freebase out!
