ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
This is one of the hottest young bands today!

This debut CD from The Blue Threads out of Houston, Texas rocks from start to finish! Amazing guitar - The Blue Threads sound and original tunes penned by band leader and guitarist Dalton Dunn, are inspired by an eclectic mix of Jimi Hendrix, The Stooges, Muddy Waters, SRV, The Jeff Beck Group, with a little bit of indie rock “and stuff” as Dalton is fond of saying.

The Blue Threads began in 2004 when Dalton Dunn met Brandon Custer at Shakespeare's Pub in Houston, Texas during a Blues Jam hosted by "Spare Time" Murray. Dalton was long known regionally as an up-and-coming blues guitarist who first played on stage at the age of 10 with Matt Leddy & The Meatcutters. The two young men gelled instantly and decided to form a band.

During the summer of 2006, they booked several gigs in Houston including the venerable Fitzgeralds where legends such as BB King and Stevie Ray Vaughan performed. They also took a road trip to Austin to attend a few jams on Austin’s famous 6th Street. During the Fall of 2006, they competed in the International Blues Competition hosted by the Houston Blues Society, winning 3rd Place in Region among artists many years their senior.

During Spring Break of 2007, armed with Dalton's originals and plenty of great cover tunes, The Blue Threads spent a week with Rock “Dr. Rockit” Romano at his Red Shack Recording Studio in Houston. This album is the result of their "blood, sweat, & tears".

FCC status: all tracks clean. Debut album from a trio of Houston rockers who, despite being only in their late teens, sound like they've been hanging out in heavy bars since the mid-'70s. The handful of covers (including Bowie's Queen Bitch) are effective and there's some promising songwriting on show from guitarist/singer Dalton Dunn (check out Don't Give Up). Well worth keeping an eye out for, especially once Dunn's voice has a bit more grit to it. KPFT review by John Fordham - May 30, 2007.

Guitar Driven Blues/Rock
THE BLUE THREADS: (bluethreads.com) May 2007. This is teenage guitar prodigy and vocalist Dalton Dunn's debut album. His regular, teenage band backs him – bassist Judson Crouch and drummer/backup vocalist Brandon Custer. Guest harmonica master Steve Krase plays on one cut. Of the 12 tracks, six are originals written by Dunn. Total time is 50' 37". Produced and engineered by Rock Romano's Red Shack Studio, sound quality is first rate. Lyrically, the album's originals present slice of life songs as seen through the eyes of a young man. Vocally, Dunn has already developed a very good voice. Expect him to mature into a top-notch singer. But that's all just trimming. Dunn's terrific, hard-driving lead guitar is the meat and potatoes of this CD. Overall, much of his playing reminds me of Johnny Winter's seminal blues/rock laid down in the late 60s. The CD opens with the up-tempo original, "Sweet Irony." From a rocking start, Dunn's kicks it up yet another notch with a phenomenal solo. Next is a sizzling rendition of B.B. King's "Rock Me, Baby." His original, "I Don't Care," with its hip rhythm and varying tempo, is among the album's best songs. The Dunn penned "Perfect World" is a really neat tune, written in the style of British 60s psychedelic rock. Two other covers that strongly appealed to this reviewer are "Search And Destroy" (great guitar) and "Good Morning Little School Girl," featuring Steve Krase's boss harmonica. If guitar driven blues/rock is your bag, this CD is a "must have." Highly recommended
