It seems that male singer/songwriters are a dime a dozen these days; some are successful (John Mayer, David Gray) and others are still struggling to get noticed (Ben Lee, Josh Ritter), but few really stand out from the pack. Here's one who does: Brett Milan Gajda, who has just released his debut album, 'Twenty Love'.

Hailing from Toronto (well Mississauga, actually), Brett became a San Francisco resident almost eight years ago. He began singing at a very young age, and ever since it has been truth for him. He played in bands from his late teens to early twenties, and then made a move to San Francisco. Though he never stopped playing behind closed doors and around campfires globally, songwriting took a backseat to other pursuits (travel, writing, painting SF red) until the Summer 2001, when the muse returned. "Music either comes to me or it doesn't", Brett has said. 'Twenty Love' is the highly melodic result of that muse's return.

A self-proclaimed singer first, guitarist by necessity, Brett's goal is for his songs to crawl inside of the listener, and awaken the emotions within. He has achieved that ambition ten fold with songs like "What it Takes" (the ear catching opening track, which contains echoes of Nick Drake), "Counting Out My Love", and "What About Tonight?". All are sung in an expressive tenor that shows off his influences (Otis Redding, Matthew Sweet and Ben Harper to name a few), and yet remains uniquely his own voice. The acoustic-based arrangements perfectly compliment his powerful vocals.

'Twenty Love' is that rarity among first albums: fully realized, confidently sung and played, and a pleasure to listen to - all of which should make the public take notice of a great new talent, Brett Milan Gajda.

Brett's songs come from the heart and in turn make me look into my own. I find myself listening to his music over and over and never getting tired of the lyrics. Each time I listen to the album, I reflect on my past, current and ultimate future relationships. Twenty Love soothes my soul and lifts my spirits about that thing they call love.

Clean and rhythmic, perfect for a feel good Sunday drive.

Twenty Love is so easy to listen to, it has become my go-to after work or Sunday drive CD. I am inspired by the lyrics and can't help but reflect as I move to its rhythm. The lead vocalist's voice is pure and the instrumentals are refreshingly creative. It's a perfect staple for the 8:00 pm slot with a glass of wine and a loved one.

It's nice, mellow, soulful. Easy chilling out music.

A very well rounded CD. Didn't feel the need to skip any songs. It resognated in my heart, took me through an experience, which is truly important for me when it comes to music. It feels like a lot of time and love went into each song. Like the world now gets to be closer to the musician. Thank you!
