"Manifest Destiny" is a mind-blowing debut from an artist whose poetic verses border on the prophetic. Whether it is the righteous anger and hard guitars of "The Fire Still Burns," the satirical playfulness and neck-breaking swing of "Kill for Me," or the joyous love for hip hop exhibited on "Step Up" (a tribute to DJ Premier), Murphy shows that he is a vital new voice not just for hip hop, not just for the country, but for the world.
In November 2005, C Magazine featured Murphy in an article, in anticipation of his debut disc: "Murphy is a well-studied, well-read, world-traveler who is an observer of life. He brings more to the table than just urban bedlam. He soaks in all aspects of the day and then creates poetic verses that are as entertaining as they are enlightening and biographical. Murphy did his woodshedding with The Wick, a band that infused Hip-Hop with Funk, Rock and Soul. Now, embarking on a solo project, Murphy is using his full name and expanding his unique sound."
In the tradition of KRS-ONE, Murphy is not only an emcee but also a provocative and passionate teacher. He teaches college courses on the history and patterns of prejudice and discrimination, and regularly gives educational, motivational, and inspirational speeches and workshops at universities, nonprofit organizations, cultural celebrations, detention centers and high schools. Buy "Manifest Destiny," and see why so many are already listening to what Murphy has to say.

Clean, crisp, cool . . .

Brian Murphy's new CD is a tight, highly professional effort, that is undeserving of the label "EP." This is a album in the classical sense--six of his best works, only the best, and he hits all the right buttons. A lesson in how to produce and present music that actually says something with both wit and wisdom. Buy it for the Bush speeches if nothing else. But listen to the lyrics.
