Album Notes

Tragedy: Defined by Websters Dictionary as a serious play with an uhappy ending. So it is with the debut release from Babylon Mystery Orchestra. "Divine Right Of Kings" explores the ultimate American tragedy in this most unusual heavy metal opus.

Never before has anyone dared to merge the worlds of politics and religion with such daring language ripped from todays headlines. Yet it's a story 2000 years in the making. Is America to be found in the frightening words of Biblical Prophecy? Is she ultimately hopelessly doomed to destruction for having betrayed......GOD?

From the powerful arrogance of the opening track "We Are Power" we see this superpower of all time: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT a lone superstate that all the wealth and power in the world emanates from. As our story unfolds we see that though she may have no apparent enemies to her face she has many to be found in herself. "Road to Madness" shows her people in a state of confusion. "Whore" shows her wicked lust for money. Has there ever been a song about the stock market before? "Its My Right" reveals the wonderful world of infighting over politics. Yet with "Savages With Cash" Mystery Babylon shows the full extent of her evil. She places many gods over the one true God that gave her her high place. Idolatry in its highest form: worshipping her own celebrities and ultimately worshipping the nationstate itself.

But no tragedy would be complete without an introspective look into how all these things affect the individual. "Save My Soul" and "Evado Eversor" offer two totally different responses to the situation.
With "Mourning Glory" and "Divine Justice" the great empire is Judged and ultimately reaps her reward. The reward for the listener is "Crestfallen" a melancholy soliloquy that eulogizes the lost empire.

Along the way all sort of musical twists and turns guide the listener through the tale, employing violins, violas, cellos.
Divine Right of Kings: Hear it today.....Live it tomorrow.
Divine Right Of Kings comes packaged with a full booklet of additional text and lyrics.

Babylon Mystery Orchestra is based in Greenville, Alabama in the southern part of Mystery Babylon The Great.

Babylon Mystery Orchestra's first album is an unforgettable experience.

"Divine Right Of Kings" is a welcome refresher in the quickly stagnating genre that is gothic metal. From the opener, A Habitation of Devils, to the closing notes of Crestfallen, the slow, almost doom-infused drone that is Sidney Allen Johnson's Babylon Mystery Orchestra is, simply put, hyptnotizing. Also noteworthy are the lyrics, which have something to say, and say it well. They are uncompromising and clear, without becoming preachy. A very nicely done album! Check out tips: We Are Power, Road To Madness, It's My Right, Mourning Glory

A very impressive album, highly recommended, if you think you can take it.

I must say this is a very impressive-sounding album, with its omnipresent severe overtone that grabs your attention right from the first note up until the very end. The lyrical content is very mature, it is obvious by the quality of the writing that a lot of thought went into the lyrics. You have to be open-minded to stomach some of the content, especially if you're an American national (the cover art is a good indication of what's inside.) There's a lot of biblical references, although this is not Christian metal with the preaching stuff or what have you - at least the way I interpreted it, the passages used are simply there to help convey the strong message. The vocals and the music are tightly coupled together on this album, and the lyrics just add to the power of the music - you just can't ignore them.

This is a band that really has something to say.

First thing we notice is the fine quality of the music, which is based on Gothic forms but also contains enough Metal stuff, it's slow and melodic at times, faster and more catchy at others, but always good, full of negative emotions and this works for the album. Another thing that has to be mentioned is the subject of the lyrics, which deals with society, and his native country in general. Some keyboards here and there are simply enriching the atmosphere and make the album even more interesting. The production is also very good, clear and powerful enough, and this is another big plus for the album. Definitely an album that has to be listened a couple of times before you reveal all it's secrets, and read the lyrics thoroughly.
