A native of Newark, New Jersey, Bob's early introduction to the piano inspired him to write songs of his own -- pounding out tunes in the living room of his parents' small apartment as early as age 4 (God help the neighbors).
It was at college in Boston during the folk-rock renaissance of the '80s that August kicked his songwriting into high-gear, melding his melodic McCartney-esque influence with the acoustic sounds of the day.
Eventually he arrived back in the Big Apple, writing songs & gigging around Manhattan & North Jersey by night. By day, August could be heard on New York radio -- & occasionally seen on TV (including a cameo performing the "Lumberjack Song" at the end of Monty Python's 20th anniversary video -- replete with '80s hair & Roger McGuinn specs).
Most of the tracks on "firstofaugust" were recorded in Nashville in the late '90s & took almost as long to create as did the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper -- though has yet to inspire a comparable cultural revolution. Nonetheless, people seem to enjoy it. We think you will too.
