Album Notes

It is with great pleasure that I present my new CD “Undecided”. I had been thinking about recording this CD for some time. When I started working with Mike Markaverich, I knew he had to be part of this project. There is no question that we are on the same musical wavelength, anticipating the direction of each song in the moment. Calling this CD “Undecided” was inevitable. There are so many wonderful standards to choose from that I had a truly difficult time deciding. I hope you will enjoy listening to this CD as much as I enjoyed recording it.
With best wishes,
Bobbie Burrell

BOBBIE BURRELL
Jazz vocalist Bobbie Burrell grew up listening to her mother sing the songs of her generation – the songs of the Great American Songbook – so it was not a surprise that Bobbie got an early start as a singer. At age seven, she was singing in a children’s chorus in upstate New York. She went on to appear with a national chorus in Mexico City, participated in the growing folk revival in Miami, Fla., and sang with a rock band in Baltimore, Md. But through the years, jazz was where her heart was and, after a hiatus to raise a family and focus on her day job, she returned to the music she loves. She has performed at various Washington, D.C., area venues, including repeat appearances at the famed East Coast Jazz Festival. She currently resides – and performs – in Florida, where she has also acted in film and a range of stage productions.

MIKE MARKAVERICH
Jazz pianist Mike Markaverich began playing a toy piano at the age of three, but didn't consider making music his career until he heard an Oscar Peterson album during his first year of college. He graduated with a BA in Music from Dartmouth College and earned a graduate degree from the University of New Hampshire. Mike began his professional career on Cape Cod where he worked as a solo performer and in various combo settings in major area nightspots for over ten years. In 1988, he moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he has been a regular and popular member of the local jazz scene, appearing in an array of live venues, television and radio.

WOW! Where can you go these days to hear evocative, cool, jazz singers? Here--you can't do better than this. The CD is titled, "Undecided", but I am anything but undecided about the lilting, smooth, voice stylings of Bobbie Burrell. Her singing brings back memories of June Christy and Lena Horne.
